Deaf Awareness Workshops

Would your business benefit from a 1-hour deaf awareness workshop?

This fun, interactive, informative hour is written in partnership with D/deaf professionals.  It gets wonderful feedback and promotes your equality, diversity, inclusion and belonging commitments.

This workshop can be delivered face to face, online or hybrid style.

The aims of the deaf awareness workshop are to;

–  Remove barriers to communication

–  Have a better understanding of the deaf world, deaf people and their preferred communication

–  Understand your responsibilities with the BSL Act 2002

–  Learn the BSL alphabet and have some fun using it!

Although hearing loss affects 1 in 3 adults, there is still a lack of deaf awareness and confidence in basic communication;

  • There are 18 million D/deaf and hard of hearing living in the UK.
  • Recent estimates suggest that the UK economy loses £25 billion a year in lost productivity and unemployment due to hearing loss.
  • Two-fifths (41%) of D/deaf employees retire early due to the impact of their hearing loss and struggles with communication at work.

Testimonials:

It was very interesting and thought-provoking and clear that we all really enjoyed it.
Nancy pitched it at just the right level, to ensure we all got a flavour of the communication issues that affect people with a hearing difficulty. Just as importantly, we learned some relatively simple measures to improve people’s experience, by helping them to communicate and to feel welcome and valued.

I wanted to thank you for the excellent workshop you led on Deaf Awareness at the Syneos building in the Farnborough Business Park. It was thoroughly engaging and a useful insight into the stats, legislation and how we can all play an integral part in supporting this.
